TUCSON, Ariz.- Following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations( HSI ), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection, a man from southern Arizona was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison on August 15 and given three years of supervised release for smuggling weapons into Mexico.

Tucson resident Victor Coronado Jr., 40, admitted to conspiring to smuggle items into the country.
Between October 2019 and July 2020, Coronado was in charge of a plot to bring weapons into Mexico from the US. Coronado and his fellow conspirators bought guns, gave false information to gun dealers about their purchases, provided money to others for the order of weapons, and helped smuggle 49 assault rifles and high-capacity automatic pistols into Mexico.
Without a valid license, it is forbidden to export the weapon that Coronado planned to bring into Mexico. Coronado and none of his fellow conspirators had a valid passport or other legal authority to bring the weapons into Mexico for export.
The trial was handled by Brandon Bolling, an associate U.S. counsel for the District of Arizona in Tucson.
