Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian A. Nichols welcomed a delegation led by Spanish State Secretary for Latin America Juan Fernandez Trigo for a second working group meeting focused on how our countries can support the people and governments in Central America, expand economic opportunity, and address the root causes of migration.

The working group brought together experts from the Department of Homeland Security, USAID, the State Department’s Bureaus of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, and Western Hemisphere Affairs for sessions focused on issues of mutual concern in the region, including governance and anti-corruption, our support for civil society, humane migration management, and ways to bolster inclusive economic development.

The high-level working group follows up on initial discussions held in Madrid on May 25, 2022.
